Franklin Azzi proposes an urban approach that brings together nature, mobility and gentle transformation of the area. The project is based on a detailed analysis of the site, between the Deûle river, the Vauban district and the Technopôle, to imagine a new urban front that is permeable, evolving and rooted in its context. Instead of traditional urban development along the Boulevard de Lorraine, the agency has designed an active linear park that can accommodate sustainable transport, outdoor activities, events and everyday uses. Lightweight structures, built as part of the transformation of the port warehouses, complement this evolving landscape with a mix of uses: housing, offices, shops and shared parking. The project is in keeping with the existing urban fabric, enhancing the heritage of the Vauban district – built enclosures, communal gardens, recycled buildings – while anticipating future changes: reducing the role of the car, renaturing the soil and creating islands of freshness.
